If moonshine is legal does it still count?
Moonshine is inextricably linked to East Tennessee, both as a point of cultural pride and as part of the criminal underworld. Lately the criminal part of the equation has almost entirely been erased by the burgeoning moonshine tourism industry. What was once the domain of backwoods stills and home ‘shiners has now become a legal industry complete with glossy tasting rooms and souvenir t-shirts.
How has this shift changed moonshine, or is the stuff being sold to tourists even moonshine at all?
